Flat towing a Chevy Tracker

I bought a 2001 Chevrolet Tracker two-wheel drive 5 speed to tow behind my motorhome. It's already set up for towing with a base plate so the previous owners along the way must have towed. There seems to be controversy about towing a two-wheel drive without dropping the drive shaft. There are some people in my group that say the engine must be running in order for certain gears to be turning in the transmission to create splash lubrication needed in the transmission or to drop the driveshaft. Some say they've done it with no problem. Some say it will ruin the transmission unless I drop the drive shaft. What say you Scotty?
