Cranks, no start

Hi Scotty - I have a 1998 Ford Explorer 2WD 5-speed with 200,000 very well-maintained miles. I’m the second owner and it’s been running like new until recently when I’ve had a starting problem. It cranks but won’t turn over about every tenth time I drive it. I’ve replaced the battery, mass air flow sensor, air cleaner, spark plugs and fuel filter. I’m thinking that the only thing left is the fuel pump is going out, works sometimes but cut’s out when it gets hot? I’ve run a pressure test on it, it was OK (as is the fuel pump relay) but it seems that’s the only thing left that it could be. Am I right or any other ideas? Thanks in advance!

Check fuel system pressure. Also check that your fuel pressure regulator is holding residual pressure in your fuel rail after the engine is turned off.

any other symptoms or warning lights?

Fuel injectors could be worn out

It cranks but won’t turn over

How can it crank but not turn over?  Do you mean it cranks but won't start?

He probably means it doesn't run on its own.

If it's cranking, the engine is obviously turning over and over and over. You can hear it!
The only way it couldn't turn over was if it was seized, and nothing would happen.
I don't understand how so many people consciously abuse English this way.

@mmj - Me either.
