2006 Ford Explorer trasmission issues

I need help. I have a 2006 ford explorer with 160,000 miles p0743 severity 2 of 3 and a p0420 transmission fluid recently changed and mechanic can't diagnose.

Not an answer, just a code lookup:
- “powertrain control module has found in abnormality with the torque converter clutch circuit”

-
- And the other one is emissions related, (If you live in a state with emissions I’d say to get an estimate on this one first. cat + tranny is over what I’d put in an 06 Ford)

Take the car to a transmission pro and pray it is just a solenoid issue, otherwise, you are looking at a very expensive repair which does not worth it.

Thank you

You're welcome. Keep us posted.

solenoids changed and code still shows up

I have a 2001 Explorer with original transmission I changed the fluid at 80k, 120k, and 161k. Still runs fine at 165k. Just curious when your transmission fluid was changed in the past? Was this the first time the fluid was changed? Since the codes come back, and as long and the transmission functions, just take it easy on it to get the last of the life out of it. If you have shifting problems check out Scotty's video about removing a quart and adding a quart of Lucas. Best of luck my friend.

I agree with the above comment.

Has anyone tried clearing the P0743 code since the solenoids were replaced? If it was cleared and came back it is likely you have an electrical connection or wiring problem since that is a generic "electrical problem code" according to below. I would suggest investigating that possibility. You did not mention any actual shifting problems, only the code.

As for the P0420 code, I would check thoroughly for intake air leaks before getting involved with oxygen sensors and catalytic converters. Should you find yourself needing to replace them, an independent mechanic should be able to use aftermarket parts that aren't outrageously expensive. Price them for yourself on line and compare to the cost of a replacement vehicle in this insane market. Not meaning to disparage, but I find it hard to believe a decent mechanic is dumbfounded by either of your trouble codes quite honestly. Good luck.
