Hello everyone.
Lately i have been thinking about buying a Fiesta ST 1.6 turbo from 2015-2017 with less than 60k miles.
From what i've read they are quite reliable as far as hot hatches go. But a problem that all used hot hatches have is all the beatings they take from previous owners.
How do i look for signs of abuse and excessive agressive driving? Lets say there is no smoke, no leaks, clutch is fine and both breaks and tires have either been changed or show no signs of abuse.
Also this would be for the European Fiesta, not sure how different the European and American models are.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
Fiesta are not good cars.
Looking for signs is pretty easy if the car do be thrashed. Easiest to spot would be curb rash or paint damages. Look from all angles as it is quite difficult to get a perfect level of paint if it has been dented in before. You'll know it when you see it. If the car is lowered (static) then also can see the wheel wells and scraping at the bottom of the car. If it be riding on bags then it was probably a show car and not a Tokyo drift one. Speaking of which, you are probably gonna want a bone stock one as if it do have extensive mods, it was either A really well taken care of or B thrashed to shit. More the other from what I known when people try and sell their ahh sport cars. Another easy way to tell is just by checking the oil at the time of sell. If it's really dark and thick with 3 c's then it was not well taken care of. While under the hood, if it does have a dealer wipe down, look underneath it. If it be really really dirty/ look for oil/other during this time, that will also show that it has been in a bit of use. Best of luck. Can also check air filter to see if it been changed or if the guy used a godawful K&N. Stickers as well can tell you the personality of the person who owned the car prior.
European built Ford are far superior to U.S. built, they still lag behind Toyota & Honda. Don't discount a Civic type R or Yaris GR for long term reliability.
