Trying to figure out if I should keep this 96 Ford Windstar w/ V-6 3.0 w/ 157k miles. It runs good because I've taken good care of it. But I was recently sideswiped and insurance made me salvage it since it was 25 years old. I just don't know much about cars and wonder if it's worth keeping but it can be tricky to get something newer with the chip shortages causing prices to rise even for used cars. What's the smart thing to do?
If you can drive it safely, keep driving it unless this market gets stable.
It's safe to drive. New tires and decent brakes. Engine runs good, clean interior .... it'll last until the market calms down a bit for used cars. I like to keep my insurance low so, I go for cars that are at least 4 or 5 years older or older. It's just a money thing. I just don't wanna spend that much on plates and insurance and the value drops by nearly 50% as soon as one drives it off the lot.
