Free repaired car request

Scotty,

I just saw that you will be looking for cheap cars to repair and then give away. I would like to request a free car for a friend of mine in need.

Her name is Desirae and we have been friends for the past seven years. I have been a handyman for the past 14 years and she started working as my assistant soon after we met. During the three years she worked with me, she earned her associates degree in fire technology and was soon after accepted into the fire academy in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, she sustained a shoulder injury and was unable to complete the program.

Since then she has worked a variety of jobs as she tried to rehab her shoulder. She also struggles with migraine headaches and various other health issues related to several concussions sustained while in the US Air Force (she was honorably discharged for medical reasons).

As her hopes and dreams of ever becoming a firefighter fade, I would really like to do something nice for her. I am willing to help fund the donor car if that would help. She currently lives in Palm Springs, California. If you would be so generous as to donate a repaired vehicle to her, I would gladly travel to you, pick up the car, and drive it back to Palm Springs to deliver it, documenting the journey home and the presentation.

Either way, thank you for what you do...I really appreciate your unique take and obvious love for automobiles and drivers.

Sincerely,

Jason

Are you sure?  I don't think Scotty does give-aways any more.

Scotty mentioned it sometime within the last month or so in one of his videos. He actually just posted about it a day ago on his YouTube channel under the community tab.

Where did you see that? Sounds like another in a long string of scammers using Scotty's name, and possibly picture, to take advantage of people.

It really doesn't pass the smell test. Scotty is 70 years old and no longer does heavy mechanical repairs which any "donated" cars would be certain to need. There would also be the problem of getting donated cars to him.

You will probably find that to get a "free" car you need to pay a couple of thousand dollars in "processing" and/or "delivery" fees and of course no car would ever arrive.

The internet can be be a wretched hive of scum and villainy for the unwary. You must be cautious.

Copy Paste again from my comment to MountainManJoe. "Scotty mentioned it sometime within the last month or so in one of his videos. He actually just posted about it a day ago on his YouTube channel under the community tab."

OK, I take it back then, just checked directly on Scotty's channel that "Community" tab which I've never looked at before and there it is.

At first blush it really did sound like one of the endless scams out there. I see Scotty also mentions the possibility of bringing his son in on the channel, maybe that's who would do the work that Scotty doesn't handle himself. It will be very interesting to see how it works out. He doesn't say how recipients would be selected.

Thank you. Here it is for those wondering.

@jason2boogie
Sounds like he hasn't worked out all the details yet. So stay tuned for more info I guess.

Maybe if you got a car, you could put word out for volunteers to help you fix it up yourself.  One guy could change the oil, one flush the coolant, one put on new brake pads, etc.

Might have to recruit people on Craigs list and FB, etc.  So you'd have to watch out for scammers and know what you're doing regarding liability.  But you never know who might step up.

(PS: you also might look to see if there is already an existing program out there for disabled vets.  No point in re-inventing the wheel.)
