My Toyota Corolla 2005 Ce won't shift out of park. It starts just fine but cant switch gears. I checked the fuses but not sure if its the fuse or instrument cluster. Maybe it's something else. I have a multimeter though so I'll probably check some diy videos out.
Also, I had a buddy clean my battery posts the other day but I noticed that he didn't remove the terminals before pouring soda on the battery. Didn't see any mechanics doing that online but I trusted him to do the job. We wiped them down, cleaned with post brush tool and wiped up any soda left. Don't know if that had to do with anything.
Car ran fine til I came back from a trip and now this.
If the problem was just the car being stuck in Park I'd suspect either the Stop light fuse, the Stop Light switch (on the brake pedal) or the shift interlock solenoid.
But your dash is acting up also.
Check the AM1 fuse in your passenger compartment fuse box.

Thanks for the response. Where exactly is the passenger compartment fuse box? I took out the glove compartment and I see relays but not sure where to find the am1 fuse you're referring to.
Jack you are the man thank you. I checked fuse 25 in the passenger compartment and it was blown AND had some copper wire tied at the posts to "make contact" I guess lol. Cars running again so Thanks.
You're welcome
Do a load test of the battery and alternator.
