Hi Scotty and community,
I am considering purchasing a 1996 Toyota Celica ST202 (Japanese import), it is the 2 Litre version with 170 horsepower (3SGE engine) with the standard manual 5-speed transmission.
I am wondering would this model be as good as your 1.8 Litre model in terms of reliability, as I am planning on keeping the car forever if I buy it.
I know the 1.8 Litre Celica/Corolla (7AFE engine) is legendary, I was trying to get hold of that model, but they are hard to find here in Ireland.
I plan on viewing the car tomorrow, rust is my biggest concern, are there any specific areas of the Celica which are prone to rusting?
I will be bringing a good mechanic with me, who will also be conducting an underbody inspection.
The car has 96K miles, and the seller is asking 1800 euro = 2041 dollars.
I would be delighted to hear your opinion on this particular model with the 3SGE engine.
Kind regards,
Jack

Now those are great cars but the problem is they're Japanese cars and some of the parts are different and it can be a pain getting the correct parts to fix them. Here in the United States they're more collectors items than everyday drivers
@scottykilmer, thanks very much for getting back me directly. Much appreciated.
