General Motors future

At GM's height of 8 brands in the early 2000s: Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Cadillac, Pontiac, Saturn, Oldsmobile and Hummer, do you think it might make a comeback in the future despite their net zero plans?

After all Hummer is back- even though it is under the GMC brand.

Could they make a comeback if done correctly?

Clarification: Make a comeback with respect to what metric? (quality? market share? stock price?  Etc.)

Making a comeback in terms of quality and a possible market share.

Who knows. Nobody can predict the future. What we expect usually doesn't happen, and the unexpected does. I don't lose any sleep over it.

GM has been battling quality issues for a while now.  I’ve watched some of the same issues persist from generation to generation (like in the Corvettes and, remember, that’s their halo car) that I am skeptical they will make up any serious ground.  They would need to drastically change their culture and core values and there has been no real evidence of that.  The current CEO Mary Barra made claims they would build better quality products when she took office years ago but that has yet to pan out - if anything they seem worse now.

Nobody knows. One can, however, make an educated guess given GM's recent history and that the same kind of dead-from-the-neck-up executives who ran the company into bankruptcy still run the place.
