I have a 2018 chevy equinox premier awd with 1.5 turbo and 70,000 miles. it’s in very good shape, there’s nothing wrong with it. my mechanic checked all fluids and verified that I got a good car. It runs and drives very well but sometimes the fuel trim seems a little high. at idle the highest i’ve seen it is -3.5% but when I drive it’s been perfect from 0 but the highest i’ve seen when driving is -5%. fuel trim is almost never positive. Should I look into this more?

Check for vacuum lights first vacuum lights will often make the idle last night and make whistling noises. Just go to YouTube and type in finding engine vacuum leak Scotty Kilmer and watch it

But i’ve noticed at idle that the fuel trim can be as high as -3.5%. But when driving, the highest i’ve seen is -5%

which? short term or long term?

Those number aren't incredibly high.

i hear a faint whistling noise ... It does need new tires and an alignment but i’m not sure if these could be related

no

mostly long term. and the faint whistling noise i hear is only when i press the gas pedal.

I wouldn't worry about the fuel trims too much. They're pretty normal.

whistling can be a lot of things. A belt driven accessory (try removing the belt), or wheel bearings starting to wear out, or even just the intake sucking in air.

Don't sweat the small stuff.

Tires need replacing so not worrying. personal mechanic told me it’s in very good shape so nothing major.

Is that long term or short term fuel trim you're talking about?

my mechanic checked all fluids and verified that I got a good car.

It may be OK now, but you should be aware of failure trends for that model.

it is mainly long term fuel trim but a little bit of both. the car doesn’t burn any oil and i change it every 5,000 miles and still get the factory mpg.

The percentage off you're seeing is not terrible, I'd just keep an eye on it. The general rule of thumb is no more than 10%.

i have a 2018 chevy equinox premier awd 1.5 turbo with 71,000 miles. it’s in very good shape, doesn’t burn any oil, no oil dilution problems, and no codes in any systems or modules. But i’ve noticed at idle that the fuel trim can be as high as -3.5%. But when driving, the highest i’ve seen is -5%. above 20 mph i hear a faint whistling noise, not very noticeable but I hear it. the pitch gets slightly higher with speed, not engine rpm’s or gears mostly under acceleration. It does need new tires and an alignment but i’m not sure if these could be related. the transmission isn’t even noticeable and is very smooth. could these be dirty fuel injectors?

I have a 2018 Chevy Equinox premier awd 1.5 turbo with 72,000 miles. it’s in great shape and doesn’t burn a drop of oil, seems to be in good shape but i just have a few concerns. 1. at idle, the rpm’s ever so slightly go up and down, but not enough to hear it in the engine. 2. above 20 mph i hear a faint whistle or whirring noise only when pressing the gas and doesn’t change with all 6 gears, only speed. it does need new tires and an alignment. 3. when i brake the rpm’s fluctuate when coming to a stop. these are just a few concerns i want an idea of where to start.

I have a 2018 Chevy equinox premier awd 1.5 turbo with 73,000 miles and it’s overall in very good shape - doesn’t burn any oil, shifts very smooth. There are no codes - not even any communication codes for all vehicle modules. When i accelerate above 20 mph I hear a faint whirring noise, but it needs all new tires and an alignment. Sometimes at idle at operating temp the rpm’s ever so slightly go up and down, but they don’t fluctuate over 100 rpm’s when they do. It’s like the needle of the rpm gauge barely moves. This is minor but still a small concern of mine. Could this be time for spark plugs? Lastly, The rpm’s fluctuate somewhat when coming to a stop. The fuel trim isn’t high but i’ve seen it go to -5%, doesn’t ever run lean, only rich but never over -5%. I change the oil every 5k miles with full synthetic and I plan on changing the transmission fluid next oil change as i’m unsure if it’s been done before. Where should I start?

Well I'll start by my video. Make your car run better with the little spray cleaner Scotty. It's on YouTube. Sometimes cleaning will fix that. If not, try some fuel injector cleaner because the injectors might be dirty and dribbling gas making it run slightly. Rich

i have a 2018 equinox AWD premier 1.5 turbo with 73k miles. it doesn’t burn a drop of oil, shifts very smooth, no codes even in all modules. i still have a few small concerns. 1. the fuel trim seems a little high as the highest i’ve seen it is at -8.6% and doesn’t run lean, unsure whether it’s long term or short term. but i still get the factory rated gas mileage. 2. Above 20 mph i hear a whirring noise but only when accelerating, and the pitch increases with speed, not transmission gears and noise doesn’t stop when shifting. It does need an alignment and 4 new tires, and i plan on changing the tranny fluid next oil change. the tranny doesn’t slip and shifts are unnoticeably smooth. 3. the rpm’s fluctuate under 20 mph when braking and there is vibration while braking but not necessarily synced with the rpm fluctuations. The brake fluid isn’t too low but it is slightly under the max. brakes are 50% front and rear. Could there be air in my brake booster? and could the whirring noise be dirty fuel injectors?
