Let's say I have a 2012 Chevy Impala without factory remote start for example, could I take it to the dealer and get factory remote start added (ignoring ridiculous pricing)?

I think they will install an aftermarket one for you with a high cost.

If it didn't come with it from the factory, do not add it. The aftermarket kits will require splicing into your existing electricals and can cause all sorts of headaches. It is not worth it.

I guess this answers my question. I should've asked if it was possible for them to install a genuine or factory system.

It is possible, but they will still need to splice in to add it. If you can live without it, I would.

You'd be better off with an aftermarket unit. I really like what Compustar offers for remote start. Aside from that, GM's factory remote start won't work if your check engine light comes on, and unfortunately it's bound to happen sooner or later. If you like the idea of using GM's factory remote, you can look into the Fortin Evo series. They let you remote start with 3 presses of the lock button on your factory remote, and some of them have a T-Harness so you don't have to splice into a bunch of wires. Don't try to install it yourself though, unless you feel confident enough.
