Jeep Cherokee bad brakes

I have 01 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo v6 4.0L 4x4 automatic 157000 miles. The camshaft sensor code was through in December but it came and go. Will I been have to put it in neutral to help stop cuz my brakes. But the question is the camshaft sensor and put it in neutral alot how much damage is done to the transmission and motor and rear end did the camshaft sensor and putting it in neutral since december do to my car?  It's my only car and Im on disability check.

That would be the Jeep 4.0 straight six I assume, not V6. Are you getting the P0340 diagnostic code? There are some possible causes here:

In early 4.0 engines what's referred to as the camshaft sensor is actually in the distributor. I believe that 2001 would have not have a distributor but the sensor is located where the distributor was in the earlier engines. (It's been a while since I've seen one of the 2000+ 4.0 engines.) In any event I've never heard of putting the transmission in neutral damaging anything. If there's a problem with your brakes as you seem to indicate I'd think the priority would be to get that taken care of.
