Scotty, I know you are not exactly a GM fan, at least not lately. I have been a GM fan for years. I currently drive a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and my daily driver, which I drive the heck out of, is a 2010 Toyota Yaris! I take good care of these cars. However, I have been pining for a truck for several years, loved the design and capabilities of the 2014 to current GMC Sierras, but they are built very poorly and decided it was not worth their costs (Considering your input as well). So after much research (horse laughter here), I am narrowing down to a 2012 Sierra GMC SLT Crew Cab with 6.5 bed. (Why are 6.5 beds so hard to find?) So what is your thoughts on the 2000-2013 GMC line up? Being that I am at least six feet tall and my wife is 4'10", we have to have an SLT for the memory driver seat and adjustable pedals.
BTW, my last pickup truck over 20 years ago was a '69 chevy 8cy and sold it too cheap and regretted it to this day.

If it has the fuel management thing where it shuts off the cylinders which I am pretty sure it does (anything beyond 2006) I would not buy it if you want it to run a long time. I like chevys too the old ones made before 2006.
Thank you for that fuel management comment. I didn't think of that, but true. However, isn't there software that can turn it off?
I have heard there is software that will shut it off if you trust it. Also what damage may have already been done. GM used to make great trucks then they got cutsie with this gas saving crap and in the long run I bet it does not save much fuel at all.
if you like it, buy it.
it's your dough and yours to drive
I wouldn't buy one just for the AFM alone.

Nothing after 2006, unless it's the 3/4 ton without AFM.
Thank you, I appreciate everyones answers. Apparently, the AFM seems to be the biggest concern here. I have been looking at 2000-2005 as well, but they are getting harder to find. Especially a Crew cab with 6.5 bed. I'm not purchasing right away, but hope to have one by late spring.
try a van instead.
It hauls cargo too. You get at least 10' of cargo space . Everything stays secure and dry. You don't need to exit the vehicle to get to it. You get better traction at the rear wheels. And the best part is ... no AFM

Thank you MMJ! Great idea! Problem is, my wife and daughter said absolutely NO! I already suggested that!
tell them they don't have to ride in it
