Going thru oil

Hi Scotty,  I have a 1997 GMC Yukon 5.7 liter engine with 235000 miles on it, it doesn't smoke, no blow by and doesn't leak oil, is it normal to go thru 1/2 to 1 quart of oil in 2100 miles

It's not terrible, in fact for warranty purposes manufacturers consider consuming up to a quart every 1000 miles to be "normal". Not that I think that's really normal but the consumption you're reporting seems acceptable for an engine of that age and mileage.

You might try changing your PCV valve to see if that helps.

Hi Scotty, I was watching one of your many u tube videos about what you recommended to put in the oil to help a oil leak, could you please tell me what you recommend. I have a 1997 GMC Yukon 5.7 liter with 236000 miles on it. I recently noticed a drop of oil on the concrete, it's small but I would like to do something about it before it gets worse. Thank you Rob

Locate the leak first (plenty of leak detection kits on Amazon).

If it's something simple/cheap like a valve cover, then fix it.

If it's a main seal, then try some BlueDevil Rear Main Seal Repair

It works for Derek (Vice Grip Garage) on 50 year old cars. It might work for you.

Keep in mind it's only meant as a temporary fix. Something to just get you home, until more permanent actions can be taken. (be it a repair, engine replacement, or vehicle replacement)

Whatever seal is leaking, could still fail completely, and catastrophically destroy your engine. So keep one eye on the oil pressure at all times, and don't let the oil level get too low.
