Good afternoon uncle scott quick question i have a 05 pontiac Grand Prix with about 155,000 miles and im having one issue with the car when my car switch gears im getting a slight hard shift could you tell me what that means the car does it afterwhile maybe after a hour or so wen I’m riding the car ?
After the harsh shifts start if you turn the car off for a minute and restart it, it starts shifting normally again? No check engine light code? I bet you have P1811, due to slow shifting through 1-2 the PCM will command full line pressure to prevent further damage. Usually it's the PCS that needs replacing, although some have fixed it with a shift kit (just need to drop the pan and it's behind it) or others have just lived with it until the transmission dies. That is what I'm currently doing, mine has 215k miles and randomly will set the P1811 code, I just turn car off or use my scanner tool to erase it. Gonna drive it until it doesn't shift anymore, and replace it since used transmissions for our cars are quite cheap.
yes correct when i turn the car off and turn it back on it stops what's the pcs? And how much will that cost to get replaced?
It's the pressure control solenoid, I'm not a mechanic but that is the most common problem. If you look up code P1811 you will see a couple other reasons, one being bad ground connection. Wouldn't hurt to check your wires. In my expiernece shops around me wanted to diagnose it first and if it was solenoid about $300, plus the diagnostics time. Although some wouldn't even touch it without wanting me to do a full rebuild due to the miles, YMMV.
