Honda's q.5L Turbo engines are known to have oil dilution problems. I've seen some sources saying that the issue has been fixed for their models since 2019, but I've also seen some sources challenging that claim. I'd like to ideally get a Honda with a 2.0L engine, but the only ones available in the car market at the moment that I can find are 1.5L turbo engines. Does anyone know which years are safe to buy the 1.5l turbo engines? Or is that an issue that Honda still hasn't resolved yet? I'm looking at Honda Civic Hatchbacks and Honda CR-Vs. Thanks.
The answer is “it got less severe but there are still some cases”
in other words just get a Toyota, the Civic, CR-V, HR-V are all currently being replaced with new models.
It’s not a good idea to buy an outgoing model (unless they discount it significantly), it’s probably going to be less desirable on the used market and already be outdated at the moment of purchase…
It’s also not a good idea to get the first model year of a brand new car (usually they're far less reliable than later models, especially on Honda)
Thanks so much!
It seems that it got less severe as time went on... which years was it the worst and which years has it been getting better? Looking at carcomplaints.com, 2017 had 20, 2018 had 15, and 2019 had 13.
For the regular civic sedan: 0 in 2022, 7 in 2021, 11 in 2020, 33 in 2019, 47 in 2018, 111 in 2017, 427 in 2016, 83 in 2015.
I'm trying to buy a Toyota but they're all sold out within 200 miles of me. Just trying to find something I can live with haha.
The specific car I'm considering is a used 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback EX.
Thanks so much!
