Best guess on ABS lights on 2018 Dodge Ram 3500

Scotty,

I have a 2018 Ram 3500 with 31,700 miles so it's lightly driven.  Over the past couple of months I've been getting intermittent "service antilock brake system", and "service electronic brake system" warnings on my dashboard.  I know what the OBS codes say which is to replace the ABS module and HCU unit.  I really question that this is really the issue.  I removed and cleaned the rear ABS sensors as you suggested in a previous video.  Messages still occur.  I am considering two options:

1.  Remove wheel, calipers, rotor and dust plate just to get to accessing the ABS sensor, remove it and clean.

2.  Don't bother and let the local Ram service facility "re-diagnose" because they must have their own sheet of paper telling them the codes, not Midas (which I call BS as it's more a money scheme to me).  It's entirely possible that this method will cost be upwards of $1800-$2000 as they may replace the units and still have the problem.

I'm purplexed what to do.  The warnings are intermittent, not consistent.  When they come on, it cuts off my cruise control.  My guess is, my brakes work just fine, just the ABS system has stopped functioning.  What would you believe may be the real issue?

Take it to a competent mechanic with a fancy scan tool for him to analyze. Midas wants to sell you stuff.

You could possibly have something as simple as a bad wheel speed sensor. If one goes bad, that will trip the ABS light and shut the system off, because the computer doesn't know the speed of that wheel. If it doesn't know the speed, the ABS can't work properly.
