Hello Scotty, I am looking for a fun sporty hatchback to throw around. I narrowed my choices down to 2 cars: 2019 honda civic sport touring with 36K miles and 2016 VW Golf R with 58K miles. I checked that this Golf R was made in Germany, while the Civic was made in UK. I only plan to have the car for about 8 years. In your opinion which would be the better choice?

The Honda is a better choice.

Between those two, and while I am not a fan of the 1.5L turbocharged I4 and CVT (both of which the 2019 Civic Touring Sport Hatch has), since you plan to keep for 8 years I would still go with the Honda.  To mitigate the oil dilution issue see below, and also be sure to use the new GF-6 oil every 3,000-5,000 miles and change the CVT transmission fluid every 30,000 miles:
