Hello

I have Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited (12.1997 - so lets say its 98 :D) Grand Cherokee ZG 280.000 km (european - 46RH automatic)

I just bought used front and rear diffs from another 5.9 jeep that was burned so the Diffs are rusted but ok. I am currentlly rebuilding and dissasembling everything and was thinking can I put 3.08 Gears. I drive mostly on road or highway and was thinking about increasing MPG a little, going from 3.73 to 3.08 shoud give 15-20% increase. My main question is ... Will lowering the gear ratios increase load on transmission ?? Less acceleration and torque is not a problem it has plenty. And are lower gear ratios weaker or stronger ?? I know 3.08 are expensive.

Thank you for all your help 🙂

Tires are 29" - 225/75 R16 so they are stock size

Well changing the gear ratio if you're going to get better gas mileage yes it would strain the transmission a little bit more because it would be having a bit more of a load but of course once you get to a certain speed it makes no difference whatsoever
