PLS HELP! I need my car back and would really like to self fix instead of having to pay to get diagnosed-
Decided to clean my throttle body and IAC valve (using throttle body cleaner) on my 1997 Toyota 4Runner (Limited, 4x4, 186k miles, 3.4L V6) while I was in there I got exited and decided to clean my MAF sensor (cleaned with MAF sensor cleaner). Put everything back together and started my car up, right away it began misfiring bad (my scanner was showing codes of all 6 cylinders misfiring), car was shaking, rpms high (about 1200+ I believe but engine was also cold)- at times the car tried to stall its self out, car started to sound like a hot rod rumbling and running really loud + rough. I let it idle for 10 minutes (both in drive not moving and in park) thinking it needed to readjust from being cleaned but nothing changed. I thought maybe I damaged my iac cleaning it bc it was so dirty so went and bought a new oem one and put it in, checked all the connections to make sure I put them back properly as well as making sure my vacuum hoses were all put back incase I mixed a line up or forget to plug one in…nothing changed. Also may I add I replaced the gasket for IAC and throttle body during the service
I don’t know what to do, or what I did. New IAC didn’t change anything, maybe I damaged my MAF cleaning it unintentionally? But I don’t know and don’t want to keep throwing parts at it if I don’t know what’s causing the issue. My OBD2 scanner showed the MAF reading at 1.5 lbs/min and the sparkadv jumping from 10.5 to 17° consistently as well as hitting 3° at the lowest and 20 or 21° at the highest. Don’t know what it’s supposed to be or mean but maybe that can show if MAF is reading wrong or something.
I don’t know if my car is not getting enough air, too much, or none of the above in which is causing the misfires.
First you have to remove the math sensor to clean it so it's not electrically connected to the car otherwise you can short stuff off and second you have to let it air dry for an hour or so to get everything off if you didn't do that odds are it's been damaged
I did disconnect the MAF while cleaning and let it dry and that’s why I’m not sure what happened bc I feel as if I did everything carefully for all cylinders to be now misfiring. Any other potential ideas?
May just have to hire a mechanic to diagnose.
Appreciate the response however, it’s impressive how much you do!
It may be the MAF sensor. Does the reading change when you rev up the engine?
