Help from South Africa
Hi Scotty
Hope you and the family are well!
Iv been following you for many years and learnt alot. I currently repair and service all my vehicles. I have a 2005 ford fiesta St150, a 1998 honda ballade 180i and the below new addition I need some expert help. About a year ago I purchased a 1966 chevy chevelle malibu. It has a 305 small block v8 2bolt from what I found on the block cast number (14010202). I need to service her and need help on what oil and oil capacity I should use. I know with pre 1980 engine lubricant with ZDDP is recommended but from the cast number this seems to be between 1980-1983. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you

Thank you so much. However this isn't the standard engine in my car. It's a chevy 305 small block. Engine cast number 14010202.if you have any documents on that model engine please
The high-zinc oils are for flat-tappet engines, plenty of which were still being made in the 1980s and beyond so the 1980 cutoff doesn't really apply. (My 1999 Jeep Cherokee has a flat tappet engine.) A stock 1980s-vintage 305 V8 is a flat tappet engine, so use of a ZDDP additive or oil that has it blended in would not be a bad idea.
Thank you Chuck.
SAE 10W-30 should be just fine, that's what I use in my older cars.
