I got a 2011 Chevy Malibu at 170K km and now it is at 173K, I was told by several mechanics not to touch the ATF at all as it may cause problems like slipping or jerking, I sense some hesitations between shifts, nothing too aggressive though.
I know that as in proper maintenance and according to the owners manual I need to change the fluid every 80K miles (around130K km)
the fluid I barely checked and it is slightly brown in its color (it might have been changed before)

Please read the transmission fluid section in our FAQ. The transmission is probably toast, which is pretty much what I would expect from a Malibu with 170k.
