- I am a new mechanic and not sure what tools to get. I now am a use car mechanic at Port Orchard Ford in Washington state..Tool truck guys want to sale me things I know I dont need and can not afford.
- I was a lube tech for many years and well as a home mechanic so I do have some tools but I don't know what else to get.
- If you can pass on some of that great experience you have means alot.
Good scan tools are a must on 1996 vehicles and newer. Go at it slowly, and as your skill set improves you will know what to purchase. Tough question.
First thing on the list is a scantool, then socket/wrench sets, pliers, flash lights, magnets, etc. Always buy quality tools with good warranty. Buy once, cry once!
Snap-on makes a light called a "neck light." Look into it. As a mechanic as time goes by you think less about new ways companies can redesign the ratchet and more about the simple tools you overlooked that will make your life better and make jobs more enjoyable. Also, dont buy a gazillion wrenches. This day in age so much can be done with air and even battery operated ratchets and different things that buying 1000 variations of different wrenches really just takes up a lot of space in the toolbox. Those are my thoughts!
Equip yourself with tools that will get you out of a jam. A high quality heavy duty puller, some hand impact tools that you can manually hit with a big hammer, a gas torch to heat up and I don't even own a electric welder, I gas weld everything.
