Should I rebuild the manual tranny in my 2010 Subaru Forester?

Hey Scotty. I have a 2010 manual Subaru Forester with 175,000 miles. I had a terrible grinding metal sound when pressing down the clutch and have been quoted 3,700 to replace faulty bearings and seals within the transmission. Do you think at this many miles it's worth investing that into the car? I take good care of it and keep up on the maintenance.

It sounds like your throwout bearing is going bad which means you need a new clutch package (clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing and pilot bearing) not a trans rebuild.

Unless that car has been severely abused it's much more likely you need a clutch than a transmission rebuild. Was it a stealership or gyp joint like Pep Boys that told you it's the transmission? For starters I'd drain the trans oil and see if any metal chunks or other suspicious residue comes out.

Well really do those transmission goes out usually the grinding is just you need a new clutch assembly not the transmission itself. But if it is the transmission hack I just replace it with the used unit they rarely go out and you can get them cheaply enough from a junkyard
