Bad idea, especially if it’s a CVT which you plan on buying. Get a Toyota or a Honda instead.

The Jatco CVTs are notorious for having poor reliability as they start to age.

How long do you plan on keeping it and how much mileage do you plan on putting on?  If you tell us you want it to last several hundred thousand miles (so reliability is your priority) then I’d stay away from the Nissan Maxima.  But if you tell us you plan on keeping up to 100,000 miles only then it can be OK (just don’t pay too much for it).  Personally, I’d get a Toyota or Honda but I also keep my cars for a really long time (with high mileage).

Im planning to keep it as long as possible and i have a 2nd car where i use it for other trips im so glad i got a reply thank you so much

The Jatco CVT is the weakest link of late model Nissan vehicles. Don’t even think about it, if the vehicle is over 100,000 miles and you expect reliable transportation.

I’d rather get a Toyota or a Honda instead.

But if that’s your only choice, have it checked out thoroughly by a mechanic, before you buy it. Have them pay very close attention to the CVT. And don’t pay much because Nissan vehicles don’t have good resale value.

The CVTs are weak but the newer ones are somewhat better and it could be a good car for 100k miles or so but don't expect much more. Don't expect any Japanese reliability the platforms are French and the JATCO CVT is very very poor when it comes to overall reliability. If reliability is a high priority and you want to daily drive it, my advice would be to consider buying a Toyota or Honda that will last you a lot longer. For example there is a V6 Camry with sport trim levels like SE and XSE as well as the Honda Accord and even the Mazda 6.
