Hi Scotty, Thermo J from Crossville TN here. Thinking about purchasing a '97 Toyota Century here. What's your take on purchasing one? A good investment?

Except in very rare cases a car is not an "investment". That one was not even part of Toyota's regular lineup in the U.S. so good luck getting parts and service.

I wouldn't recommend to buy any vehicle that is not sold here in the U.S. because the parts are impossible to get.

Most cars are not and should not be considered investments. An investment will make you money. Cars, generally speaking, will lose you money.

Whether a car is worth an investment or not is contingent upon if there is a market for that car, and if people are willing to pay more and more for that car over time. Maybe the Century is an investment, maybe not. I really don't know that market too well. If you were talking a same era Supra, then that is definitely an investment, depending on its condition and mileage.  But a Century can go both ways.

With that said, if I had the extra cash, it would be fun to own an old Toyota like a Century. But I don't know if I would consider it an investment. It would be more of a fun thing to have.

no

Forget about it!  Maybe you used the word “investment” loosely here, but otherwise cars are not investment pieces.  You are better off investing in the Stock Market.

.

Investment level cars are few and far between and are very expensive, sometimes in the millions of dollars and are usually ultra low miles.
