I bough a used Toyota hilux 2010 2.7 (2TR-FE) that had 335k km and the previous owner I thought he was using 20w50 but the engine is cleaned and in good state so can I use 10w30 becuase I know 20w50 will damage VVT-i system so I am so worried about the destroy the engine. Also, I am living in hot area.
What’s the highest ambient air temperature around your area/commute?
50° Celsius in the summer
Look up your owner's manual online and see what the manufacturer recommends for grade and weight of engine oil based on the ambient temperature where the vehicle is operated.
I can use 10w30, 15w40, 20w50 in hot temperature but for updated one that has dual vvt-i it can use also 5w30, 5w20, and 0w20 even in hot temperature. I have the vvt-i version but the manual doesn't recommend any viscosity it just says you know you can use these
what's on the oil cap?

There is no number on oil cap I had taken some pictures inside the engine and in the oil cap
Does the sheet in the owner's manual have a graph with an ambient temperature range and the appropriate oil weight for the temperature? I've not seen many new cars compatible with multiple oils at different temperatures, especially with VVT, so that's interesting. My 1979 Catalina has a whole page dedicated to what oil to use and when, but it's an ancient car.
Most cars here owner manual has many different viscosity so there is nothing said you have to put this but I want to be in the safe side

Good but now at these high mileage can I get back from 20w50 to 10w30?
Is the engine burning oil? Was there any particular reason the previous owner used 20W50?
Sorry for being late I had done just final exam yesterday. No the enigne is not burning any oil. Why? Well some people here they don't learn how to do the maintenance in right way so they think any oil is okay and no problem at all. I am so scared the 20w50 will crash the engine down for this I ask can I get back to 10w30
