Higher octane gas has nothing to do with maintenance or cleaning. Just use Techron fuel system cleaner if you're having issues with the fuel injection system.

On a new/regularly serviced vehicle, no. Not unless you’re suffering from any injector related issues. If you’re doing for preventative maintenance, you’re just throwing away your money. 

I've never used injector cleaner on any of my cars. I've always used good quality gas such as BP,Costco... I've never had injector issues.

Try to use Top tier gas and you should be fine. Put high octane gas in a normal car is just waste of money, you mag get a tiny better gas mileage but it does not worth it.

I throw a can of B12 in my tank every now and then but mostly to bond with any water (condensate) that may have accumulated.  But buy good gas.  Naptha will make it higher octane.

Octane is just the measurement of how much pressure the fuel can take before it self ignites. In higher compression engines that are in fancier cars, you need higher octane fuels because if you don´t you will get something called engine knock. That is where the air-fuel mixture ignites before it is supposed to. If your car only requires 87 octane, that means that your engine does not have extremely high compression, so there is no benefit of using 91 or higher. See what the manufacturer recommends for your model and use that. And I believe that fuel additives are good to use every once in a while. Needless to say, don´t waste your money by pouring them in at every fill up. Thats my 2cents...
