[Solved] 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Shake

Hello,

My dad's Silverado suffers from a shake while the engine is out under load. This could be from a standing start, going up hill, or even rolling and just hitting the gas. It is also seen at top gear (it is a 6 speed) at around 1500 RPM.

He took it to the dealer, and at first they couldn't even feel the problem until I took them out and pointed when it was happening. They updated the TCM and ECM, but that didn't help obviously, even though they said it did and they couldn't detect it anymore.

Has anyone seen this issue? What is the fix, if there is one that isn't obviously getting rid of the thing haha.

Regards

An update on this; the dealer switched out a couple components (hopefully improved quality, or it will just happen again...) My dad says he does not feel the shake anymore, fingers crossed it stays that way.

The main items other than seals and a couple exhaust clamps are:

  • 24248573 - Transmission fluid pump cover kit
  • 1-2-3-4 Clutch plate replacement

I'm not sure how you can be in 6th gear from a standing start or rolling unless you mean cruising at highway speed, letting off the gas, and then getting back on it and it happens. I would tell your dad to just keep bringing it back to the dealer and demanding they do something about it. The more you keep showing up the more documentation you will have that you tried to warn them about the issue so if the rear end gives out later they cant claim that it was your fault.

When I said in 6th gear I meant at cruising speed. I could set the cruise control at about 90 kmph which put the RPM around that 1500 mark, and could feel the shake. I have given him the advice from inthrustwetrust, hopefully it gets sorted. If it does I will post on this again as an answer for future people asking about it and possibly searching it up.

Does the whole vehicle shake, like if you have bad engine mounts or only the steering wheel, like when you have out of balanced wheels?

@inthrustwetrust
(I think I replied wrong, if you are able to delete my 'answer' that would be great.

It definitely feels like it is coming from the center of the vehicle, at first I thought it was front left wheel area, but being driver and passenger it feels centered.

I don't feel it in the steering wheel, more on the floor, and mostly in the seats. It is a subtle shake. He was told that some people have had success with changing the transfer case oil.

I forgot to add the issue is more prominent in 4H than it is in 2H.

The truck currently only has 11600 km's on it as well.

It happens during gear changes (any gear up or even down), and when under load, yesterday I was driving it and the whole vehicle was lurching forward for several seconds. It happened when I had to slow down for a vehicle turning at an intersecting road, I did not have to come to a complete stop, rather slowed to maybe 10 to 20 kmph.

Oh man, what’s happening to GM quality?! Driveshaft or differential already having issues in a year old truck?
That vehicle is still under warranty. Made a video of the shake while it happens and show it to the dealer. They HAVE to fix it! It barely has 12,000kms on it.

@inthrustwetrust
Yeah, the dealer is quite literally useless, which is why I posted here to see if there was any educated people on the possible cause.

I did mention to them that previous years had driveshaft problems but they shot that down saying they had never seen that before...

I will suggest for him to bring it to another shop, hopefully they have more knowledgeable mechanics. I will tell him what you believe the problem could be with the driveshaft or differential, might get them to investigate those areas (hopefully with the wireless microphone monitor thing). If not I will buy one of those kits myself and try and narrow it down.

Thanks for the assistance!

@kotr
Could also be a transmission mount and you shouldnt have it in 4wd goimg fast only use 4wd when you need it

@KOTR
Be persistent with them (dealers) ; )

Is it anything like the "death wobble"? I know Ford has major issues with it on the new trucks and I have heard Chevy does as well, but have not seen one just yet.

Thank goodness it is not that bad, it is (or at least was) very subtle at first, like going over a grooved road perhaps. My dad at first thought it was just the road and didn't actually notice it that often, but after I pointed it out to him he feels it all the time.
