Hello everyone,
I was driving yesterday in cold and rainy weather. Just when I was about to park, the check engine light came and the display spelled out, " check emissions system" with the IMA light also momentarily flashing but turning off a couple of seconds later. I used my blue driver tool to scan for codes and I got the aforementioned codes with the following descriptions.
U0110: F-Can Malfunction (Battery Condition Monitor Module - Motor Control Module)
U1205: LOST COMMUNICATION WITH MOTOR CONTOL MODULE
I put gas and tighten the cap but the check engine light did not go away. A drove back home and 10 hours later when I turned on the car again to run errands, the check engine light was gone. Is this something I should be worried about? I am going to take it to a Honda specialized mechanic this upcoming week and get an opinion on the matter. I would appreciate insights.
Thank you.
'U' codes are electronic communication issues. Nothing to do with gas cap.
Easy stuff you can do yourself is check fuses, and have the battery+alternator tested.
Beyond that it's going to require more advanced troubleshooting to find the fault wherever it is (wiring/connections/computer modules etc.)
Hi MountainManJoe,
thank you for your reply. I tested battery and looked into the fuses; they are fine. The alternator is the hybrid battery in this car and as far as I can tell, it is okay. I re ran the BlueDriver today and the same codes appear. However, they were no longer under the Permanent Trouble codes section but in the confirmed trouble codes section. I do know that these cars have been known to act funny when the 12V battery is discharged. Is there a remote possibility that by leaving my hazard lights on for a couple of minutes repeatedly over the course while I have my car parked and turned off caused this problem? I deliver for door dash.
thank you.
No, using hazards should not cause problems.
Unfortunately Bluedriver won't scan special modules like the motor driver and battery monitor. It's gonna take a special tool
The codes seem to be related to the IMA system: integrated motor assist. It could be wiring like @mmj said. I highly doubt it has directly to do with emissions system, maybe something downstream from the emissions system.
Are there any physical or mechanical systems besides the the check engine light? Does the car start and drive normal? Is the engine continuously on, instead of stopping at stops?
Hi @Kaizen ,
I drove the car yesterday for around 50 miles and from start to finish there were no problems of any sort. In addition, the econ, normal, and sport modes of driving also worked. I reused the blue driver tool and the aforementioned codes still came up. They were still in the confirmed trouble codes section and not permanent trouble codes section. I would like to also add the conservative driving helped me hit 41 mpg for about 15 miles before I entered the free way; so the motor assist was definitely kicking in. I have an independent Honda certified mechanic going to take a look at it this Friday.
thank you for your input.
Thanks fir the update.
