Honda CR-Z opinions

I've searched the forums but have not found anything on the CR-Z cars.  I'm curious if they are worth buying used.  I have heard that at 100k the battery system is bound to need replacing but I have no idea if that is true.

I'm not looking to buy, but Scottys video today ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AubzD4HN6V0 ) about Honda Civic hybrids made me start wondering about the CR-Zs as a good reliable vehicle that might just last a long time.  I think it is more hybrid than the Civic hybrids, and if so that may be a mark against it.

Do any of you have any thoughts on this?

Batteries eventually need replacing. Whether it is a Honda hybrid, or a Toyota hybrid.

With that said, I recommend doing research on how the specific IMA hybrid works for the CR-Z.

In the Early 2000’s Civic Hybrid, it had a backup starter, so you could technically use the car without the hybrid component.

A modern Honda hybrid doesn’t have this feature, as it runs mostly on an electric motor.

The CR-Z falls in between the old IMA and the modern hybrid, so I am not sure how it works.

Thanks for the info Kaizen! I'm in the same boat, I'm not sure where it falls, and should the batteries fail if you could make it gas only and still have a good car.

If you have access to it. Take a look at the engine. If you see a starter, you might be able to drive it without the hybrid component. If it's all integrated into the IMA motor, then probably not.
