Are newer hondas with their turbocharged engines very good and reliable or should I avoid buying a turbocharged engine and should you trust honda for their engines?
I enjoy my 2.0T Accord. Very sporty, good gas mileage. Will it hold up long term? Can't say. But so far so good.
Best thing you can do for a turbo is use a good quality synthetic oil and keep it clean (5K mile changes at most). The turbocharger is a wear item but can go over 200K miles with proper care.
No one knows how long those engines will hold up (especially with their oil dilution “fixes” or mitigation measures) including the 9-speed ZF and 10-speed Honda-designed automatic transmissions. If you wanted a vehicle to last as long as possible with minimal issues look for a naturally aspirated engine (Honda still makes them but not available on all models). Although, some of the naturally aspirated engines (V6 only) do have cylinder deactivation which can have its own issues (best to disable it via aftermarket), but the I4 do not have that and one version of those is still offered with port injection only (the rest are all GDI). In general, if I was in the market for a brand new vehicle and prized longevity the most I’d lean more towards Toyota over Honda.
