2011 Prius. Front passenger wheel bearing replacement..... $760.
Is it just me, or is that an excessive amount to charge for a $60 part and a one and a half hour job?
You didn't say what shop quoted you $760? If you went to the dealership, then not surprised at the quote
Sorry, It was Premier Auto in Worcester MA. It was not a dealer. I am kicking myself for not replacing it myself before my wife left for Massachusetts. Long story....
What's the breakdown on that $760?? Does sound like a lot for a wheel bearing replacement. They must have a heck of an hourly rate.
Thank you for putting my mind at ease! Should be a $350 to $400 job. For a minute there I thought I was either being cheap or I was out of the game so long that I didnt know current pricing. THIS is why I do my own auto repairs. This one I could't do for a number of reasons. The estimate just says:
Labor---Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Assembly (Remove and Replace)
Part-----Wheel Bearing and Hub Assembly 1. $720.59 + Tax
Bearing and hub assembly makes more sense. High quality aftermarket is close to $200 and the price on an oem Toyota is almost twice that, so throw in their labor and that is about what it is. That is why I do my own work as well. But as I get closer to retirement it is getting harder to do the bigger jobs. I had a Highlander with same issue and I opted and got a complete knuckle assembly and had my mechanic just swap it out and do an alignment.
