When I had a 1993 GMC Jimmy, I was able to jump two ports on the OBD port with a wire. The dash would then flash the service engine light a certain number of times depending on what code was registered.

Probably need an old scan tool. Gauge cluster probably won’t do anything.

It should still have a diagnostic port under the dash. You need to find out if it's OBD1 or OBD2.

You can post a photo here if you want.

the truck is a 95' so since it is before 96' would a OBD scanner work for it?

Like I said. If it has a port then a scanner will work. But you need the right scanner. Post a photo of the OBD data link connector.

i think i figured it out with the check engine flashing, i got one code telling me that my engine is misfiring... i totally didn't already know that

You need an OBDI scanner tool. Sometimes they made you count flashing check engine lights when you turn the ignition keys 3 times. Depends on the Make. Check your manual.

the check engine does indeed flash, but it blinks too fast for me to record it

Actually 95 is a transition here sometimes you need a dealer scan tool to read anything on that. But if you can get a piece of wire there's a way of testing it by reading the flashes on the dash just Google accessing codes on $95 Dodge watch the videos

it is giving me codes telling me the engine has been cold for too long LOL

OP - find out if you have OBDI or OBDII port (I would bet on OBDI but double check), then invest in a scan tool for piece of mind.  Or take to a local auto parts store and they can scan for you (if they have the tool).

If it’s OBDI, then Actron is one of the few (and rare) companies that makes scan tools for OBDI and I’d recommend getting one of their tools (let me know and I can send you a link)- but you’d have to check your vehicle is covered by that model scan tool.
