My family is taking a trip up to NY to see family and we are renting a car.
According to New York, you must be 18 years old to rent a car. I rented a car from Budget and it says that I can rent a car with me as the main driver. My father looked at Avis for a better deal (haven't paid anything yet) and they told him that he can be the main driver but they can not add me as a 2nd driver because according to them, it's a NYS rule. I am 24 years old and I looked over NY's rules for renting a car and that rental car companies cannot prohibit me from renting one.
How do rental car companies get away with rules like this? How do they not get caught?
If someone wants to borrow my car, I can make any rules for it I want.
You should be able to be listed as an additional driver but since you are not the main drivers spouse, you have to pay a daily fee
