I have a 2008 BMW X5 with 254k miles that still idles drives and shifts like a dream. I use it as a commuter to work and drive about 50 miles a day with it averaging about 80 mph at 17mpg. The only issue it has is related to the I drive module. I’ve tried replacing module and even removed the interior and carpet to trace wires for an issue with no luck. Eventually I decided to just unplug the I Drive since doing so makes all of the codes go away. Have you seen any other modern X5’s like mine with such high that are still working this well? Thanks for all you do.
It's the luck of the draw. Every once in a while you run into one that takes longer to turn into a money pit.
Even a blind squirrel gets a nut once in a while.
Good one.
A stopped clock is right twice a day
I’m curious, how much gas it cost you to maintain the BMW?
My experience with BMW is that they are reliable. But, they cost more to maintain.
Aside from air filters, cabin air filters and PCV valves it’s really only been fuel and oil changes. Mind you I was previously a head mechanic for speed shop before transitioning into tech so I do all repairs myself minus alignments. My other car is an SRT-8 Jeep so even though the BMWs fuel efficiency leaves a lot to be desired it is still significantly better than my alternative.
My sister has an X3 with 180K since new, she's never had a significant repair
I think some of these blanket statements you see here and other places, BMW are crap, anything but Toyota and Honda are boat anchors, etc is a lot of hyperbole
Go google rusted frames on Toyota and Lexus SUV and trucks and you'll see what real crap looks like, I know I own one but was lucky someone sued Toyota and I ended up and getting my frame replaced for free as a result. Almost all others driving around in these ready to collapse death traps have not been so lucky. There ares many different models with the same issue. My friend owns a Lexus 470, Lexus just declared it "unsafe to drive" because of frame rust.
