Scotty I’m leaving my 1978 Chevrolet C20 pickup truck at an at home mechanic’s house for 5 days while I’m on vacation. I’m getting him to replace the pinion seal in the rear differential (which is a very simple job on my truck). How much do you think is a fair price for him to charge me and how much do you think is too much (ripping me off)?

It's not all that simple. Getting the companion flange off and replacing the seal is easy. Putting it back together correctly is the important part. These is a crush sleeve and shims that need to be correct and it has to be properly torqued to specifications while measuring the pull away force with a spring loaded pull gauge. Hope he does it right.
