Looking a ones with a manual transmission. Looking for a affordable long term hot hatch?

With how many miles? For what kind of usage? "long term" as in a couple years or a decade?

Decades hopefully & maybe put 200,000-300,000 miles on it.

Not very.

deffinetly don’t buy one if you plan on using it for, as you said, “Decades hopefully and put 200,000 - 300,000 miles on it”.

(Unless you’re in Europe and you see VWs around you getting these kinds of high mileages on 2nd hand car buying websites)

look it’s a GTI, it was probably beaten the hell out of by its previous owners. And if you drive the GTI like a proper hot hatch it’s not gonna last you 200,000 miles at all. I’ve seen manuals on them have unexpected and uncontained failures before that.

300,000 miles (480,000 km) is somewhat unrealistic even for a diesel manual with oil replaced at 1/3 of the recommended service interval.

ive seen some people in the UK get a lot of mileage out of them but 300,000 miles for a Volkswagen is too much.

As far as hot hatches go… I’ve seen Volvo C30s get above 200,000 miles when they weren’t being actually used like a hot hatch but more of a small safe family hatch…

The only reliable hot hatches I can think of that can last 250,000 miles or more are the Honda Civic Type R or the last gen 2020 YARIS GR (Dynamic force 1.6L 3 cylinder and a manual - but it’s not sold in the US as far as I know)

If you want to get that kinda mileage, get yourself a Toyota or Honda.

Dan is right.  I would pass on it;  if your budget allows get a Honda Civic Type R.
