How to correctly check trans fluid level

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe, with the V6 Front Wheel Drive trim.

Last weekend I drain & filled my trans and around 4 1/3 quart came out.

I put the drain plug back on and unplugged the side level plug and continued to pour in new fluid to the top fill plug.

The fluid started to flow from the level plug and I capped it once the stream became slow & steady.

This is how various youtube videos showed me to do it.

However, I can’t help but to notice that I put in a whole qt less then I took out with this process.

Now I’m reading on forums where other people left the car running while checking the level.

Is that where I went wrong, by not filling while the car is running therefore under filling my trans?

The car is driving fine and shifting smoother, but I will do the job again tomorrow for reassurance.

Thanks in Advance!

I don't think that you did anything wrong here.

No. Leave the car alone. You said that your car now drives and shifts smoother after the drain and refill.
