At what point should you bail out of a Prius, miles wise, before you have to deal with replacing the cost prohibitive batteries?
It’s not millage, it’s usually age.
About 8-10 years, when the battery warranty ends.
The hybrid battery warranty is usually around 150,000 miles or 10 years. Check your manual to be sure of yours, as it has changed.
With my 2004 Prius since I owned since the beginning, the battery needed changing around 17 years and 275,000 miles.
And just from anecdotal evidence, it seems like the higher mileage ones last longer in and lower mileage ones need to be replaced sooner. These batteries need exercise just like humans. If it just sits, it tends to go bad.
I think my usage, mileage, and age, is above average for lifespan.
Mind you, do the math when it comes close to time, because if battery prices are good, it does make sense to change it. If battery prices are sky high, then probably better to get another car.
