Due to engine location, vans have very little working room. That means working on them usually involves having to removing a lot of pieces, which adds to labour time.

You'll find the bill will probably be about 10% parts cost , 90% labour.

And yes, the dealership will charge top rate. You can either find an independent mechanic or do it yourself.

Thank you for your answer. I was was thinking it was something more technical like recalibrating the throttle body or something like that. Thank you for your help.

You've got a van, and they're not made to work on. Even discounting the location of the engine, the location of the plugs themselves can just add to the time.

They make spark plugs that have such long lives these days, the engineers don't care about ease of service. In their minds, the monetary and material savings from routing an intake manifold, etc. Over the plugs vs the additional hassle they're causing to change the plugs is worth the cost. You won't need to change them often, so they can make it a chore.

Scotty did a video a while back on a Lexus (I think it was a Lexus) and cursed the engineers who put it together because they buried the rear bank spark plugs under the intake manifold. He had to pull the thing off to change plugs.

That's right. The focus on automobile design now, is to make them cheap and easy to assemble/produce.

Thank you for your answer.

You already know the answer: because they are dealers.

They are called stealerships for a reason. An independent mechanic should be able to do the job for less money. (It will still be expensive because as noted by others it is a difficult job.)
