This may seem a dumb question but I am in need of answers because I need my car fixed very badly and I'm trying to keep all my options open to all possible outcomes and everything.
You can refer to my recent questions pertaining to my 1993 Honda Del Sol S Model with the 1.5L 5-speed manual. Bottom line, since my distributor replacement, I STILL have been unsuccessful at even starting the car one time. Now, I've been fighting the timing issues.
But my question now is-just to clear the air I guess-i know that if you "Hydro-Lock" your motor, there is nothing you can do for it and time to call it a loss. BUT, does that mean that if you are in that state, will you vehicle even be able to move or will it have to be picked up?
I know this sounds dumb but I'm just wondering, not that the transmission fell to the ground or anything
Hydro locked means that the piston rods are bent and/or broken.
If it is mild (relative term, it’s still a disaster and the motor will still need to be rebuilt or replaced) it may run, kinda, maybe enough to move it from its parking place. But that’s about it. More severe than that, it may not run at all.
But either way, it won’t be “bricked” like some electric cars where they have to be moved with a crane. You will still be able to put it in neutral and push it around - and considering it a Del Sol, that should not require much effort.
PS: I’m pretty sure there are posts in the archive how to tell if your car is hydro locked. May even be a Scotty Video.
How is it hydrolocked? Pull out the spark plugs and then crank the engine to blow out any coolant in the cylinders.
Put a new set of plugs in, try to start it, and see if any mechanical damage has occurred. If you bent/broke a rod it will be obvious
As long as the brakes aren't sticking you will still be able to put it into neutral and push it.
I still CRINGE when I hear the Charger fire up & hear the unmistakable sound of death...rod knock! 0_o
