If you had to choose any turbocharged engine (aside from large commercial truck and bus engines) that can last a long time whether it's gas or diesel, what will it be?

I am of the understanding that diesel engines are built a lot stronger, and can handle turbos better.

For gas engines, the Toyota 2JZ and the Honda K-Series can supposedly handle way more horsepower than stock, thus implying that they can handle turbos better too.

Mine has already lasted a long time - 26 years and nearly 370,000 miles, and still runs great. However I think the older turbocharged engines were built heavier than they are today and were not nearly as complex.

What kind of engine is that?

1997 Saab 2.3 turbo. Iron block, forged crank, rods, and pistons, sodium-cooled exhaust valves. No low-tension piston rings or plastic engine parts, relatively modest 200hp output (engine is not highly stressed).

The jury is out on the longevity of modern turbochargers, so no one can really say with utmost confidence.

Welcome new member! What kind of application are you talking about?  If you can be more specific what you are looking for you’ll get better answers.

I'm just looking on turbocharged engines can last a long time that they put it on cars.

OK, I guess all I can add is:
1) naturally aspirated engines tend to last longer than turbo
2) the most important thing is the overall quality - good quality cars usually have good quality turbos; if the car is low quality, the turbo won't change that
3) more often than not, the car has a turbo, or it doesn't. It isn't usually a cafeteria-plan option
4) turbo charged car reliability is very heavily dependent on maintenance (especially oil) and driving style
