Myth or truth?

I was watching your video about 20 myths, and I have a question: well 2

I have a buddy who drives a 2010 Camaro SS.

1. he says he can only put the top (93 octane I believe) in his car cause that runs the best.? Any truth?

2. he also is picky about which gas station he goes to because he said he can get debris in the gas that can lead to mess up his engine.. Do you agree?

thanks

Robert!

1. True. Performance engines run best on high octane fuel.

2. True. You should always run top tier rated fuels in a performance vehicle, or any vehicle for that matter.

A Camaro SS would have a high performance engine, with high compression, so it's able to make more power with high test gas.

It sounds like your friend has had issues with bad gas, so he's being careful. I've never had issues, but anything is possible. But cars have fuel filters specifically for this reason. Debris should get trapped there before making it to the engine. It can be a major pain in the rear to replace fuel filters.

1. If his owner’s manual calls for 93, for maximum performance & horsepower, then yes.

2. I do this too. Some gas stations are renowned for selling dirty (or sometimes adulterated fuel). It depends on the owner & how frequently they lean & maintain their storage tanks.
