Hello, Scotty. I'm having so many issues with Intoxalock's device, that I don't know if I need a mechanic, or a priest to perform an exorcism. It's a 2016 Honda CR-V, automatic, w/66,615 miles. I apologize in advance, this is going to be a novel.
So due to a terrible lapse in judgment 12 years ago, I got a DUI in Florida, and was ordered to have this device installed before I could drive again for 12 months. I now live in Texas, but the requirement still holds, and I had to get a device that both states consider suitable, or else trust me, Intoxalock would've been my last choice. Anyhow, I started having issues 5 days after it was installed, and took it in, few days later, same problems. After the third time, took it to the only other shop in town that does these, (both are now dropping the company) and they discover that it was installed improperly. Specifically, instead of wiring it to the starter, they spliced the lead wire, and soldered it to the ignition and light/horn fuse to get it running, because as they told me at the initial install, they were having trouble with voltage and resistance issues. New garage "fixed" it, and it happened 3 days later, and has happened 26 times since.
The issue it is having is non-starting after providing a clean sample. But not always. I noticed this; the car only has issues when it is around 85° or hotter outside, and even after it has problems, I can go back to it at night, or the morning when it's cooler, and it will start EVERY TIME. Without fail. Now it has also provided my car with a plethora of error codes over these 3 months, which has seen me lose 2 jobs due to tardiness directly related to the car. MAF sensor low circuit (P0102), O2 sensor, Camshaft Position A Sensor, and most recently, ECM failure. I will provide pics. I've replaced the MAF already, still getting issues. So far I've had 6 different mechanics look at it, and they seem as baffled as I am, and I'm ready to pull what little hair I have left out.
So Scotty, here's the thing, out of all of the possible candidates for the award, "Most Annoying Part of This Experience", it may very well be that everyone seems to be blowing me off when I tell them about the temperature variable! It's the only common thing about every time it fails to start. And then I watched your video about ground wire issues, and it got me thinking... could it be a ground wire issue in the cabin area of the car? I've seen that one of Honda's few weaknesses is ground wire problems, and if it is only happening at certain temps, it wouldn't be in the engine compartment, I would hypothesize. Every other device will come on when I try to start it, it just doesn't crank, and it is a push- button. And I've read that certain metals, when they exceed certain temps, can act as a resistance to a circuit. So my question, in summary, is this: Could a ground issue cause this kind of problem, and how would I go about determining the location of the problem, and then, if it is the problem, what steps do I have to take to determine whether or not this has cause irreversible damage to the computer system. I really appreciate your time, love the show and videos, and I thank you in advance for any advice you may have for me.
Jeff
We can talk about it but you really can't do much about it. Mechanics must be certified by Intoxalock to be "state certified" to work on the unit. The installer used Intoxalock's tamper seals on all the wiring connections and if a certified shop finds they've been "tampered" with they're required to photograph the wiring and report you.

Wow, that was quite a read. I have a Toyota that only has 8,300 miles on it, got the intoxalock installed, and had nothing but problems starting the car. Got new battery, continued to have problems starting engine, finally stopped driving the car, had device removed, and you better believe it screwed up something in the electrical. It had nothing to do with blowing in the Interlock device. Did you ever find a solution to fix your vehicle? My car is at the shop, another new battery, and a main fuse was blown, and not the easy to access fuse. However, that might not even fix the car, it may have jacked the whole wiring system up! I am going to do some research to see if the installer screwed up something. Nothing was wrong with the car until 4 weeks into it, and very few miles driven on it. Its a real trip to avoid the car when you have to blow and drive anyways. Yes I got a DUI, and paid all my debts to society, groups, courts, lawyers yada, yada...that whole DUI costs upwards of $10,000.00+ by the time you get through the court fees, attorney etc...Nobody could be more regretful than I am, and am so thankful nobody got hurt. I shouldn't have to spend thousands of dollars in repairs on a brand new vehicle, that I cant even start the engine. The intoxalock was removed in April, but I hadn't been interested in tackling the car problem until now. Didn't mean to bring all my drama onto your thread, and I should start my own thread with these problems, but thought it was worth a shot to sneak in & see if anyone else had these probs? {black}:idontknow:
Thanks,
Rainey
To anyone that may have answers, I forgot to post the error code images. I can send them if you respond
