My neighbor's car won't start and she just wants to get rid of it, so she is offering to give it to me for free. It looks like it needs a new battery, and/or possibly an alternator or starter. I tried using a portable battery charger, and it produced enough power for the radio and the power seats to work, but the engine does not turn over. It will need new tires and probably brakes as well. The engine and transmission supposedly are okay. Interior is about normal for its age. Is this vehicle worth trying to save, or should I just junk it (Copart will give me $275 for it)? Thanks, Scotty, and by the way, I'm from Niagara Falls too, but I live in Florida now.
Check the starter if the engine is not locked.

For freebies, I'd take a stab at getting it running as long as it doesn't cost much. Instead of buying a battery, maybe temporarily install one from another vehicle. Resist the temptation to jump start unless you have a standalone jump starter. (Jumper cables can damage electrical systems in both vehicles involved.)
If it runs OK it's a deal, if not junk it and get a few bucks for it that way.
