Hi, it's me again, asking about the transmission shudder of my 2011 Subaru Tribeca, with 100k miles on it.
As said before, it started after a transmission flush, but it's very specific, between 4th and 5th gear, 45 mph and 2000 rpm or less.
It happens during the lockup to overdrive.
Is this shudder ultimately going to break my transmission? Can I leave it alone?
Thanks in advance.
Well it’s doing something it’s not supposed to do. What I would do is take it to someone who specializes in transmissions and rebuilding transmissions. And explain to them what’s happening and see what they say.
It's certainly not good for it, not meant for all that vibration. Bring to a specialist, maybe they can adjust the values for the torque converter slip? to get your driving better.
for ten bucks, try dr. tranny fix. it worked for me
I've tried, it worked for one month, now the shudder is back 🙁
lockup and overdrive are two different things. The shudder will get worse before it gets better.
Thanks for the explanation. I thought that the lockup was the transmission operation which leads to the overdrive.
no. Overdrive is a speed. The transmission simply shifts into overdrive the same as it would shift into 1st , 2nd etc...
When people talk about "Lockup" they usually mean torque converter lockup while cruising.
(not usually noticeable)
So you have a shudder during the 4-5 shift. Consult a Subaru transmission specialist.
Cool. What do you mean by "gets better"? Does it goes away by itself?
> "Does it goes away buy itself?"
No. It will probably get worse. And the vibration will accelerate wear to the rest of the transmission.
