Is a used 2016 Mazda3 a good choice?

Hello, I have been searching for used cars for a while and I finally chose the 2016 Mazda3 I sport sedan. The main reason I got interested in Mazda3's is that I will be driving to Tenessee from Michigan multiple times for work. The Mazda gets about 40 mpg on the highway and that would be a big money saver. It has about 136,000 miles, but I know that's not too big of a deal since Mazda is working alongside Toyota and they both last very well. In the end, would this be a good car that will last?

Which engine and transmission?

It is a 6-speed Automatic Transmission with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine.

I have a 2017 Mazda 3 and can say that I have not had a single problem with it, in fact I worked as a carpenter for some time and loaded it full of tools back seats down and filled it from floor to roof could not see out rear window. I was way over the recommended vehicle weight so much so that I had to replace the rear brakes at only 20,000km the fronts brakes were fine witch is not typical fronts usually go first, and have yet to have a serious problem as a result so I would strongly recommend it

@robmar1937 Thank you for the info!

The price is good. They are good cars, though not as good as lets say a Toyota Corolla. If you care about efficiency and reliability, I would recommend the 2014-2016 Corolla. They generally go around 9 grand and get 40mpg highway like the Mazda. If you like the Mazda better, they can be good cars as long as a mechanic says its in good shape. In 2015 Mazda partnered with Toyota. In 2014 it switched to their own powertrain, proven to be trouble free until now, and they didn't have complexities like turbochargers and cylinder deactivation until 2018. By all means, they aren't bad cars and they are known to be more fun to drive.

@Kerem Thank you so much for the info!

What is the price? Depending on that and the condition of the vehicle it might be a good deal.

It is $7,995 and I asked the Dealer the final price after Tax and fees and he said its about $8,600

It varies on the market, but I would not go over 7600 out the door.

Okay, thank you for the input! @Jpparisio
