Hello Scotty,

I have a 2016 Subaru Impreza Premium Sedan with 51,000 miles on it. I was curious if the CVT fluid was the same as the differential fluid on this particular vehicle or if the differential fluid was different from the CVT fluid? Thank you in advanced!

Look in your owner's manual for this. I'm inclined to think not, differentials are generally splash lubricated, they're more viscous at a result. A dedicated pump transports fluid in a CVT, thus that fluid is generally not nearly as viscous.

No. Some manual transmissions use a gear oil similar to diff fluid. But CVT fluid is much different. Putting gear oil in the CVT will make it nonfunctional, and putting CVT fluid in the diff will cause rapid wear.

Not likely at all, but your owner's manual would have the final word on that issue.
