Hi, I have a 2003 toyota camry with over 200k miles and thinking about getting rid of it now. researching it and I would like to spend $2,000-$3000 on my next car and a lot of mechanics say a old buick lasabre with 3800 engine for that price range, is that a dumb idea. What other cars would be good in that price range for reliability and last long. Thanks
I would keep your car but that 3800 is one of the best if not the best v6 ever made reliability wise for the price you pay
@Jakob please put your answers in the ‘Your Answer’ section down below. Thank you.
Better the devil you know. I’d keep the Camry.
I just don't want the common head bolt problems of the 2.4 l engine
How pervasive is the problem? How is it solved?
The 2002 - 2005 Camry had a problem with the head bolts stripping out of the aluminum block causing blown head gaskets. The service bulletin at the time recommended installation of Time Serts for all 10 heal bolts. The problem was pretty wide spread.
Aluminum! Interesting. @CarterOlson07, do you know if the time serts were done to your engine?
No clue I bought it used but I heard it only happens if engine gets overheated
Scotty made a video on how it is the best $1500 car ever(as long as you don't overheat the engines )
If you look up the definition of disappointment in the dictionary, it will say Buick.
Not a Buick but I bought a 2005 Impala with the 3800 engine. Bought it new and it was a good running car until around 90,000 miles when the transmission went out, Had it replaced with a rebuilt and all was ok until not long after the water pump went out. Got it fixed and sold it to a guy who knew the history of the car. Not long after he complained to me that the engine was burning oil. I really liked that car until it started to let me down.
In no conceivable universe would I consider trading a perfectly good Toyota for a Buick to be a good move.
I think the mechanic is trying to rip you off. I won't say you're dumb. The mechanics are making you feel asinine.
Keep the Camry
